Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas is looking to add to our Human Resources Total Rewards team and has a new opportunity for a Total Rewards Specialist. This position is pivotal in ensuring the delivery of exceptional customer service and consultation with leaders and employees while managing and enhancing our employee benefits and leave programs. The ideal candidate will be proactive, knowledgeable about Benefits, Leave, and HR policies, and committed to maintaining compliance with federal and state regulations.

"This position is eligible to work hybrid (9 or more days a month onsite) in accordance with our Telecommuting Policy once onsite training is complete. Applicants must reside in Kansas or Missouri or be willing to relocate as a condition of employment."

Compensation

$72,000 - $86,000
Exempt Grade 15
  • Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas offers excellent competitive compensation with the goal of retaining and growing talented team members. The compensation range for this role is a good faith estimate, it is estimated based on what a successful candidate might be paid. All offers presented to candidates are carefully reviewed to ensure fair, equitable pay by offering competitive wages that align with the individual's skills, education, experience, and training. The range may vary above or below the stated amounts.

What you'll do

  • Deliver professional consultation and support to leaders and employees for complex inquiries related to benefits, leave and disability accommodations, ensuring high employee satisfaction.
  • Manage third-party vendor relationships for benefits, leave, and disability programs, ensuring compliance and optimal service delivery.
  • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration to resolve intricate leave and accommodations matters, leveraging expertise to develop effective solutions.
  • Advise on company policies and ensure adherence to benefit, leave and disability regulations, proactively recommending updates to policies as needed.
  • Expertly review and resolve complex benefit and leave discrepancies, ensuring timely and accurate outcomes.
  • Participate in the implementation and testing of HRIS enhancements, ensuring robust workflows and user experience.
  • Manage employee and retiree records for accuracy and records retention compliance.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive communication plan to ensure clear and prompt dissemination of benefits and leave information to employees, including, but not limited to, designing and presenting content for new employee orientation and annual open enrollment.
  • Deliver analyses of benefits and leave data helping to identify trends and contribute to the development of programs, policies, communications, training, and survey participation.
  • Provide subject matter expertise for one or more functions within the team, leading day-to-day efforts for specific focus areas.
  • Evaluate internal processes for opportunities to increase efficiency.
  • Assist in the mentoring, training, and development of Total Rewards Specialists.

What you need

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or other related field of study
  • In lieu of degree, 4+ years progressive experience in Human Resources with a solid understanding of benefits and leave
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in benefits and leave administration
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with employees, leaders, and external vendors, fostering collaboration with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with tact and discretion.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of federal and state employment laws, benefits administration, and HR best practices.
  • Expertise in managing employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and leave management.
  • Strong proficiency in HR Information Systems (HRIS) for data management, reporting, and process improvements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Analytical abilities to interpret data, conduct policy analyses, and make impactful recommendations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Effective problem-solving skills to address and resolve complex benefit, leave and accommodation issues promptly.
  • Strong organizational skills to oversee multiple initiatives and ensure timely completion.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail in managing records, processing invoices, and developing communications.
  • Ability to adapt to and influence through change, including implementing new policies and procedures effectively.
