Quality Director

Primary Function:

The Quality Director will be responsible for maintaining existing certifications while developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive quality management systems that ensure the highest standards of product quality and regulatory compliance in metal fabrication and manufacturing. This role will have direct reports and will oversee all quality assurance and control processes, lead cross-functional improvement initiatives, and drive a culture of continuous improvement across the organization.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Quality Leadership:
    • Develop and execute the company's quality strategy aligned with organizational goals.
    • Lead and mentor the quality team, including quality manager, inspectors, and technicians.
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for quality issues with internal stakeholders and external customers.
  • Quality Management System (QMS):
    • Maintain and improve the QMS to ensure compliance with ISO 9001, AISC, IECex, and other industry standards.
    • Oversee internal audits, corrective/preventive actions, and management reviews.
    • Ensure quality documentation is up to date and accessible.
  • Inspection and Testing:
    • Supervise incoming, in-process, and final inspection activities.
    • Ensure all inspection tools and gauges are calibrated and maintained.
    • Work with engineering and production teams to resolve quality issues and implement process controls.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Lead root cause analysis (e.g., 8D, 5 Whys, Fishbone) and implement corrective actions.
    • Drive lean manufacturing and Six Sigma initiatives to improve product and process quality.
    • Analyze quality data and metrics to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Supplier Quality:
    • Develop and monitor supplier quality standards and performance.
    • Lead supplier audits and qualification processes.
    • Partner with procurement to address supplier nonconformances and continuous improvement.
  • Customer Interaction:
    • Handle customer complaints and audits related to quality.
    • Ensure timely resolution of issues and effective communication of quality metrics.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field; Master's preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in quality assurance within a metal fabrication and/or assembly manufacturing environment.
  • 5+ years in a leadership role managing quality teams.
  • Deep understanding of welding, CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, and assembly processes.
  • Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Six Sigma Black Belt, or equivalent preferred.
  • Proficient in quality tools and methodologies (SPC, FMEA, PPAP, APQP, MSA, etc.).
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 9001, AISC, IECex, ICC 500 standards.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.

Work Environment:

  • Combination of office and manufacturing floor environments.
  • Occasional travel to suppliers or customers may be required.
