A Brief Overview
The Transportation Technician must demonstrate the ability and be willing to perform a minimum of 2 of the functions in the Transportation Department. These include 1) Patient Transporting, 2) Courier 3) Employee Shuttle Driver 4) Mail Processing and Delivery 5) Dispatching. Transportation Technicians are scheduled as required to meet the needs of Stormont-Vail and are cross-trained. Technicians must interact with internal customers on a frequent basis, using tact and diplomacy while communicating clearly and accurately.
Education Qualifications
* High School Diploma / GED Preferred
Licenses and Certifications
* Drivers License - DMV Current Valid Driver's License and Clean MVR with 3-year baseline and annual MVR review. Required
* Basic Life Support - BLS Required within 2 months of hire.
What you will do
* Transports patients, visitors requiring assistance, medications, specimens, blood products, films and any other item that needs to be delivered to authorized personnel. Transports all of the above utilizing beds, stretchers, and wheelchairs.
* Assists in lifting patients into beds delivering them to their required destination. Assists in lifting patients into the cadaver cart and delivering to the morgue room.
* Travels to and from delivery site(s) on foot or by vehicle as assigned. Delivers supplies, medications, blood, specimens, documents, films and equipment to customers.
* Drives a shuttle bus between hospital and off-site parking lots or other locations. Picks up and delivers employees. As needed, assists employees on and off the shuttle.
* Sorts and delivers USPS mail and Inter-office mail daily. Lifts and carries large containers of mail. Able to operate letter opener, scales.
* Answers phones and logs details of each request. Communicates tasks to fellow Transportation staff providing them full details to ensure accurate and efficient completion of tasks.
* Maintains logs on items picked up and delivered.
* Transports patients according to proper procedure.
* Loads equipment, boxes of supplies and other goods into and out of vans.
* Maintains logs on items picked up and delivered.
* Prepares outgoing mail for USPS mail processing vendor and maintains logs on charges to appropriate internal account number.
* Locates address in records and forwards discharged patient mail.
