Topeka Public Schools is dedicated to fostering a technology-rich learning environment that empowers students and educators. We are seeking a Network Specialist II to join our IT team of System Administrators and play a vital role in maintaining and enhancing our network infrastructure.

Position Summary:
As a Network Specialist II, you will be responsible for the installation, configuration,
maintenance, and support of complex server-based and cloud-based systems. You will ensure application and infrastructure security monitoring, analyze and resolve related issues, and evaluate systems to meet network requirements. This role is integral to supporting a K-12 educational environment, ensuring smooth technology operations that enhance student learning and administrative efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:
•Install, configure, maintain, and support physical and cloud-based servers, network
infrastructure, and enterprise applications.
•Perform system administration duties including user account management, security
configurations, and software updates.
•Monitor and troubleshoot network and system performance, identifying and resolving
issues proactively.
•Implement and maintain security measures to safeguard network systems, including
firewalls, intrusion detection, and endpoint security solutions.
•Assist in the development and enforcement of IT policies and procedures to ensure
compliance with district, state, and federal regulations.
•Support virtualization, cloud computing, and backup/recovery strategies to ensure
business continuity.
•Collaborate with IT staff and school administrators to assess system needs and develop
solutions.
•Provide technical guidance and support to end-users, including educators and
administrative personnel.
•Maintain documentation of system configurations, procedures, and network topology.
•Research and evaluate emerging technologies to improve network efficiency and
security.

Qualifications

Required:
•Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field OR
equivalent professional experience.
•Minimum two (2) years of experience in network/system administration.
•Proficiency in Windows Server, Linux, cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google
Cloud), and virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V).
•Strong knowledge of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs,
VPNs, and firewalls.
•Experience with enterprise security practices, including SIEM solutions, endpoint
security, and access control measures.
•Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues efficiently.
•Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Preferred:
•Experience working in a K-12 or educational environment.
•Industry certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, Cisco CCNA,
CompTIA Network+/Security+, AWS Certified SysOps Administrator).
•Familiarity with Google Workspace for Education and educational technology platforms.
