The Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation is seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Tribal Realty & Land Management Specialist to oversee the management of tribal land holdings, real estate transactions, and property records compliance.

This position plays a critical role in supporting tribal land sovereignty, executing property acquisitions, and managing real estate transactions that benefit the community and future generations. The specialist will work closely with the Tribal Council, Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), and external agencies to facilitate land purchases, trust applications, easements, leases, and rights-of-way (ROW) while ensuring compliance with tribal, federal, and local real estate regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage Tribal Land Transactions - Oversee land acquisitions (fee and trust), leases, easements, and ROWs to ensure proper documentation and compliance with federal, tribal, and state regulations.
  • Ensure Regulatory Compliance - Work with the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), tribal government, and legal teams to process land acquisitions, trust applications, and lease agreements.
  • Oversee Property & Realty Records Management - Maintain and safeguard legal documents, deeds, surveys, appraisals, and transaction records for all tribal land assets.
  • Support Tribal Land Sovereignty & Economic Growth - Assist in long-term planning efforts related to land management, infrastructure projects, and real estate investments.
  • Act as a Liaison - Coordinate with Tribal Council, legal representatives, and government agencies to ensure real estate and land transactions align with tribal priorities.
  • Process Trust Land & Fee-to-Trust Applications - Secure tribal land holdings in trust status and manage the necessary legal documentation.
  • GIS Mapping & Land Use Planning - Utilize geographic information systems (GIS) for mapping and analyzing tribal land holdings, infrastructure, and development plans.
  • Change Management & Workforce Adoption - Lead organizational change initiatives, ensuring a smooth transition to modernized land management systems and policies.
Who We're Looking For
  • Real Estate & Land Management Expertise - At least 3 years (preferred 5) of experience in tribal land management, real estate transactions, property acquisitions, or legal compliance.
  • Regulatory & Compliance Knowledge - Familiarity with BIA real estate processes, tribal land leasing, environmental regulations, and trust applications.
  • Strong Recordkeeping & Attention to Detail - Ability to accurately maintain official land records, property deeds, and legal documentation.
  • Education & Training - Associate degree required in Real Estate, Land Management, Business Administration, or a related field. A combination of education, specialized training, and experience will be considered.
Education & Certification Requirements

Required (One of the following or equivalent experience):
  • Associate degree in Real Estate, Land Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Completion of specialized training in real estate operations, records management, or tribal land policy.

Preferred (Additional Qualifications that Strengthen a Candidate's Application):
  • Bachelor's degree in Real Estate, Land Use Planning, Legal Studies, or a related discipline.
  • Coursework or certification in BIA Realty Management, GIS Mapping, Land Tenure Systems, or Environmental Land Policy.

Preferred Certifications (Not Required but Beneficial):
  • Certified Land Title Professional (CLTP)
  • Real Estate License or Land Use Planning Certification
  • Certified Records Manager (CRM) for Document Management

A combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered in lieu of a degree.
